DENVER — Nuggets coach George Karl said Tuesday he has been diagnosed with neck and throat cancer but was told it is treatable.

Karl said he started a six-week treatment that includes chemotherapy, and the treatment could cause him to miss games and practices.

Karl was treated for prostate cancer in 2005.

ALAMEDA, Calif. — Sebastian Janikowski and the Oakland Raiders agreed Tuesday on a $16 million, four-year deal that is the richest contract for a kicker in NFL history, the team said.Janikowski will be guaranteed $9 million in the deal, a person familiar with the contract said on condition of anonymity because the team did not announce terms.Janikowski is coming off the best season of his 10-year career. He made 26 of 29 field goals, with his only misses coning from 45, 57 and 66 yards. He also made six kicks of at least 50 yards.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University indoor thrower Rachel Weber was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week.Weber won both the weight throw and the shot put at the SRU Open at Morrow Field House Friday with efforts of 15.29 meters and 12.57, respectively.The former broke The Rock's previous record set by Erica Timmons in 1999.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Former Slippery Rock University basketball standouts Bill Rausch and Kory Fielitz Rorabaugh will be honored during the Clarion-SRU basketball doubleheader Saturday at Morrow Field House.The women's game starts at 1 p.m., the men's game at 3Rausch is No. 4 on The Rock men's all-time scoring list with 1,507 points. His 25.2 points per game average in 1982-83 is the second highest by a Rock player.Rorabaugh is the SRU women's all-time rebounding leader with 961. She ranks second in points with 1,694.Pre-game receptions will be held at Morrow Field House at 11:30 a.m. for Rorabaugh and 1 p.m. for Rausch. They will be recognized at halftime of the women's and men's games.

With the new WPIAL girls basketball realignment announced this week for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons, Oakland Catholic will join Butler, Seneca Valley, North Allegheny, North Hills, Pine-Richland and Shaler in Section 3-AAAA.
