Bob Miller

HARRISVILLE — Bob Miller of Parker has been honored as the 2009 Pennsylvania Tourism Employee of the Year.

The award comes from the Pennsylvania Campground Owners Association, which had its state convention in December in the Poconos.

Miller was presented the award Jan. 29 at the Kozy Rest Kampground.

Miller, a seasonal camper, began helping out at Kozy Rest 10 years ago, performing duties such as greeting guests, security and other roles. He was nominated for the award by the campground staff and its owner, Denny Quigley.

Quigley said Miller goes above and beyond routine effort in customer service. Kozy Rest Kampground is a 170-camp site family campground in Harrisville.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University's Government Contracting Assistance Center will host a free "Understanding the COSTARS Program" seminar from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at the VA Butler Healthcare, New Castle Road, Butler Township.COSTARS is a cooperative purchasing program managed by the state Department of General Services' Bureau of Procurement.It allows public procurement units to purchase products and services from businesses through a state contract.The seminar will explain statewide contracts and COSTARS contracts, the types of supplies bought through COSTARS contracts and how to become a COSTARS supplier.For information or to register, contact Renee Decker, government contract specialist, at 724-738-2346.

Chicora — Lori Bible has been named human resources director at Chicora Medical Center.Before joining the center, Bible was the assistant director of human resources at La Roche College. Previously, she was on the human resources staff at NexTier Bank.Bible earned a master's degree in human resources administration from La Roche and a bachelor's degree in human resources management from Point Park University, where she graduated with honors.She lives in Cranberry Township with her husband, David.

GIBSONIA — The St. Barnabas Valencia Woods board of trustees has been elected.The members are: Harry Austin III, Wexford, chairman; Karen Tabacchi, Penn Township, president; Shelly Jenkins, Ohio Township, secretary; J. Victor Conrad, Cranberry Township, treasurer.

BUTLER TWP — Penn State Cooperative Extension and Butler County Community College will have the program, "Marcellus Shale: Natural Gas Exploration and Considerations," from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Feb. 22 at BC3's Succop Theater.Discussions will be on legal and environmental issues, as well as financial and community issues.Cost is $15 per person. Marmon/Keystone has announced plans to close a warehouse in Bolingbrook, Ill., and to open a new 22-acre facility in Spring Valley, Ill., to serve customers in the Chicago area.The company sells more than 15,000 sizes and grades of tubular and bar products.It is based in Butler.

SAXONBURG — II-VI has signed a $40 million multiyear contract with Lockheed Martin, a U.S. Department of Defense contractor, to make sapphire windows for the Joint Strike Fighter, F-35 Lighting II's electro-optical targeting system.Lockheed will work with II-VI subsidiary Exotic Electro-Optics of Murrieta, Calif., on this project.

CINCINNATI — A redesign of Gillette's Fusion razor, the nation's best seller, is coming and — before you ask — it doesn't have any extra blades.The company plans to have the Fusion ProGlide on store shelves in June.It's the first new shaver Gillette has developed since Procter & Gamble Co. took it over in 2005, and it benefits from research expertise at the Cincinnati-based makers of Olay skin cream and Pantene shampoo.New features range from blades that are 15 percent thinner and meant to tug skin less, to a better grip and new mineral-oil lubrication."Guys don't say they want more blades. They want more comfort," Matt Wohl, Gillette general manager for new male products, said.The five-blade Fusion was developed before Boston-based Gillette became part of P&G and made its debut soon after. It's become a $1 billion brand in annual sales and accounts for 45 percent of the men's razors sold in the U.S., according to P&G.The ProGlide will cost 10 percent more than the current Fusion, at a suggested price of $10.99 for a handle and a single shaving head.
