Academic team wins competition

Moniteau High School's academic decathlon team won the small school regional championship competition held Feb. 5 and 6. It is now preparing for the state championship March 5 and 6 at Edinboro University. The academic decathlon team at Moniteau High School was crowned small-school regional champion at a competition Feb. 5 and 6.

The competition included speech, interview, and essay as well as written tests in art, music, language, math, science, economics and super quiz.

Individual accomplishments included sophomore Clarissa Kimmey finishing third in the region, while earning a perfect score in the super quiz. Junior Sarah Miller finished first overall in the scholastic division while seniors Phil Kristufek and Tony Miller placed second and third completing the Moniteau Scholastic overall sweep.

The team earned 54 medals out of the 100 awarded to small schools.

Slippery Rock High School placed third.

The Moniteau team now will spend the next month preparing for the state championship, which is March 5 and 6 at Edinboro University.
