SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University Athletic Department will sponsor its third annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day Saturday at Morrow Field House.

The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and affords girls ages 5-12 the opportunity to learn and participate in a variety of sports activities under the direction of SRU student-athletes and coaches.

The event is free and includes lunch for all participants. Free admission to the SRU women's-men's basketball doubleheader at 1 p.m. is also included.

PITTSBURG, Kan. — Slippery Rock University junior center Brandon Fusco was named to Don Hansen's Football Gazette NCAA Division II All-America second-team honors.The Seneca Valley graduate has been a three-year starter for The Rock, who ranked sixth in the PSAC this season in rushing yards (146.4 yards per game) and eighth in scoring offense (25.2 ppg).

The winter blast that dumped more than a foot of snow on Butler County led to numerous high school sports postponements over the past three days.Some of games have been rescheduled:• Butler girls at Moon, rescheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. (Varsity only).• North Allegheny girls at Seneca Valley rescheduled for today at 6 p.m.• Knoch girls at Valley rescheduled for today at 6 p.m.

MONTREAL — From his time as captain to his tenure as general manager, Bob Gainey has spent a lifetime providing leadership for the Montreal Canadiens.Now, he's handing the reins to a trusted colleague.Gainey stepped aside as Montreal's general manager and was replaced by assistant Pierre Gauthier in a surprising front-office shake-up for hockey's most storied franchise.Gainey starred for the Canadiens from 1973-89.
