Margaret R. Sigworth

Margaret Ruth Sigworth, 87, of Fredericksburg Road, Karns City, Perry Township, Armstrong County, passed away at 10:20 p.m. Monday at her home after a 10-year illness.

She was born in Perry Township, Armstrong County, May 16, 1922. She was a daughter of the late Roland E. Hiles and Mildred Bishop Hiles.

She was a member of the Fairview United Presbyterian Church, where she was organist for more than 60 years, and she was a 1939 graduate of the Fairview Township Karns City High School.

She was the Perry Township tax collector in Armstrong County for more than 30 years.

She married Harry W. Sigworth in Rantoul, Ill., on May 13, 1943.

Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Linda J. Callihan and James R. of Centreville, Va.; a son and his wife, Roger Sigworth and B.J. of Bruin; four grandchildren, Christopher P. Callihan and Donna M. of Charlotte, N.C., Mark E. Callihan and Shai A. of Ashburn, Va., Kimberly D. Brown of Prospect and Michael D. Sigworth of Bruin; seven great-grandchildren, Matthew P. Callihan of Charlotte, Victoria M. Callihan and Robert J. Callihan, both of Ashburn, Va., Mary E. Sigworth and Timothy J. Sigworth, both of Bruin, and Courtney I. Brown and Hannah J. Brown, both of Prospect; a sister and her husband, Jean Michael and Arthur of Chicora; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death along with her husband were two brothers, Roland O. "Big Doc" Hiles on Jan. 9, 1964, and Stanley Clayton "Little Doc" Hiles on Jan. 11, 1997; her father on May 28, 1930; and her mother on Feb. 25, 2001.

<B>SIGWORTH</B> — Friends of Margaret Ruth Sigworth, who died Monday, Jan. 4, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home</B> in Petrolia and on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Fairview United Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Scott Bunting, church pastor, and the Rev. Richard Rowe, former pastor, officiating.
