Down home folk Noted artists to play at Succop

Jay Unger and Molly Mason will play American acoustic sounds at 8 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Succop Theater at Butler County Community College.

BUTLER TWP — The Performing Arts Series at Butler County Community College continues Feb. 20 with a concert by American folk musicians Jay Unger and Molly Mason.

The show will begin at 8 p.m. in the Succop Theater.

They are known for their performance of Jay's composition "Ashokan Farewell" from Ken Burns' PBS series, "The Civil War."

The married couple has been linked artistically even longer than they have been married.

The pair met in the late 1970s while performing at a rural New York club. Molly headed off to Minnesota to work in the house band of a new radio show: "Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion."

Back in New York, Jay put together a band with fellow fiddlers Evan Stover and Matt Glaser and guitarist Russ Barenberg. When their band Fiddle Fever found itself in need of a bassist, Molly signed on.

Jay and Molly have also worked on film soundtracks such as "Brother's Keeper" and "Legends of the Fall."

In the early 1980s, Jay started his Ashokan Fiddle & Dance Camps. Molly is a full partner in designing and running these programs.

Tickets are $18 in advance or $22 at the door; students pay $10. Call the box office at 724-284-8505 or visit the Web site, www.bc3.edu/theater.
