DeMatt

Albert DeMatt, 88, of Butler, passed away Wednesday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot.

Born in Mars on June 10, 1921, he was the son of the late Albert and Clara Pizzi DeMatt Sr.

He formerly was part owner of Lyndora Lanes; was a former manager of Penn Lanes on North Main Street in Butler; and he was a former manager of Sherwood Lanes in Lyndora, from where he retired.

He was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, and he was an active supporter of the Toys for Tots Foundation.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Troop C, 81st Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron of the 1st Armored Division in Africa and in the European Theater in Italy and Germany.

He was awarded the Silver Star for infiltrating five miles behind enemy lines. In addition, he received four Bronze Battle Stars, the Victory Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal.

Numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great- nieces and great-great- nephews survive.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Lavorini DeMatt, who passed away on April 9, 2002.

The last surviving member of his family, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Anthony DeMatt, Mundo DeMatt and Joseph DeMatt, and three sisters, Florence DeMatt, Laura DeMatt and Elsie Lutton.

<B>DeMatt</B> — There will be no visitation for Albert DeMatt, who died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Butler, with the Rev. Father James Dolan, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.Military honors will be accorded by V.F.W.
