Historical society presents awardThe Zelienople Historical Society presented its Angel Award to <B>Ron Goehring</B> of Zelienople.The award is given annually to a person or group who has made a major contribution to the preservation or promotion of local history.Goehring has been an active member of Zelienople Historical Society since 1989 and has served on the board of trustees since 1995. He has been extensively involved with fundraising and educational efforts of the society and is chairman of the Historic Properties and Ground Committee.Zelienople Historical Society established The Angel Award to honor Joan Teichart, who collected angel figurines and donated the Buhl House to the Society.

NATIONAL EXPOSURE — At Butler Catholic School, three students were published in “Our Sunday Visitor,” a national weekly Catholic newspaper. The subject was the 26th annual “Christmas Memories” feature edition. Essays by Katie Klinko, sixth grade, left, and Chris Gamble, eighth grade, and a poem by Kate Kletzli, eighth grade, right, were published in the Dec. 20 edition.
FAIRGROUND MARKET WINS CHILI COOK-OFF — Lesley Bachman, left, president of Operation Spay Neuter, and Carol Landis, a member of Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, present Fairground Market owner Tom Taylor with the first place award for the third annual Chili Cook-Off on New Year's Eve. The event raises funds to support the work of both groups.———
Sixth, seventh and eighth grade students at Butler Catholic School recently took part in a program with Scholastic Book Clubs and Super Bowl MVPs Peyton Manning and Eli Manning to help donate more than one million books to disadvantaged children.Students in Kathy Frederick's English and literature classes at BCS read 100 books as part of Scholastic Book Clubs' ClassroomsCare program. Then the philanthropy-based literacy campaign donated 100 books to charities identified by the Manning family, including Reach Out and Read and Save the Children.Since its launch in 2001, the ClassroomsCare program has resulted in the donation of more than 9 million books to children in need.———On Jan. 21, the winners at the Butler Duplicate Bridge Club were:First: <B>Alan Martin</B> and <B>Ray Kramer</B>Second: <B>Joe Abrams </B>and <B>Bill Stewart.</B>
