Weiland

David Bernard Weiland, 43, of Virginia Beach, Va., died Tuesday in a tragic accident.

He was born Oct. 26, 1966, in Butler.

David was the loving son of Evelyn Summerville Weiland and David Weiland, both of Butler.

He was recently engaged to Alyssa Christian of Virginia Beach, Va.

He was a veteran of the Navy, having served aboard the USS Normandy in the Gulf War.

David was a longshoreman with ILA Local Union 970. He enjoyed his work and his profession and will be deeply missed by his longshore brothers and sisters. He was noted for his communication skills and could relate to international merchant marine captains and mates from the world over. David enjoyed his work and was dedicated to his profession.

He loved riding his Harley-Davidson and was a charter member of the ILA Longshore Riders, where he held the position of sergeant-at-arms. David participated in many rides to raise money for local charities, especially for children. He was a strong supporter of St. Jude's Hospital.

David was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He waved his Terrible Towel proudly and loved to show his Black and Gold pride.

David was a big-hearted, caring, accepting person who easily endeared and charmed all he met. He was a talented craftsman who enjoyed renovating his home. Everything he did, he did right and did with great pride. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time with his family at their camp in Kane.

He was very much looking forward to starting his new life with his fiancée, the love of his life. He was a wonderful son, brother, fiancé and uncle and leaves us with a deep heartache and will be dearly missed by all. David had an exceptional bond with his many nieces and nephews.

David is survived by four brothers and two sisters: Daniel of Franklin and New York City; Lisa Lotz and her husband, Kirby, of Prospect; Lori Turner and her husband, Thomas, of Chicora; James and his wife, Tina, of Greensburg; and Alan and his wife, Heather, and Aaron and his wife, Tammy, of Butler; his maternal grandmother, Isabella Summerville of Chicora; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. His father's wife, Donna Berlin Weiland, and her children also survive him. He also is survived by his fiancee's family who loved him dearly and he was very much a part of their lives: mother and stepfather, Cynthia and Gregory Concepcion; father, Stephen Christian; brother, Stephen Christian Jr., and niece.

<B>WEILAND</B> — A celebration of the life of David Bernard Weiland, who died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Virginia Beach at the Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home; and from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E.
