ALTOONA — A Marine credited with saving the lives of about a dozen of his comrades in Afghanistan was laid to rest Saturday morning in Altoona.

Funeral services were held for Staff Sgt. Matt Ingham, 25, at Cathedral of Blessed Sacrament, and he was later buried at Grandview Cemetery.

Ingham's platoon commander said he died Jan. 11 after saving about 12 fellow Marines by crawling, while wounded, to call in air support, exposing himself to additional fire.

Ingham was assigned to 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Okinawa, Japan. He graduated from Altoona Area High School in 2002 and also served two tours in Iraq. He is survived by a wife, his parents and a sister.

GROVE CITY — A Western Pennsylvania man was ordered to stand trial on charges he burglarized a home after getting a ride to the crime scene from his mom.The woman, Judith Martin, 50, of Cochranton still faces a preliminary hearing Feb. 3 on conspiracy and other charges she faces in the Jan. 13 break-in allegedly committed by her 20-year-old son Robert Martin.Police said Robert Martin took knives, jewelry, a telephone answering machine and other items from the home in Liberty Township, Mercer County.Police said a neighbor recognized Martin, and police said they later found some of the stolen items at his mother's house. Neither Martin has a listed telephone, and online records don't list attorneys for them.

PITTSBURGH — A judge is expected to decide the fate of a woman accused of murdering a pregnant teenager and cutting a baby from her womb.Andrea Curry-Demus, 40, is charged with killing 18-year-old Kia Johnson in July 2008 in a plot to steal her baby. Allegheny County Judge Jeffrey Manning is expected to render his verdict in the non-jury trial late this morning.Prosecutors say Curry-Demus lured Johnson to her apartment after they met at the Allegheny County Jail, then bound her, removed the baby, and tried to pass it off as her own.Curry-Demus' attorney said his client should be found not guilty by reason of insanity.Johnson's son survived the attack and now lives with family.
