CENTER TWP — Three boys and three girls won the Elks Hoop Shoot free throw contest at Center Township Elementary recently and will advance to the district finals at Moon High School Saturday.

Elizabeth Simms and Nicholas Kibbie were age 8-9 winners, Jordin West and Ian McCarrier age 10-11 winners, Shelby Campbell and Noah Ferguson age 12-13 winners.

SAN DIEGO — Outfielder Matt Stairs and the San Diego Padres have agreed to a minor league deal.Stairs, who turns 42 in February, has spent last year and the final month of the 2008 season with Philadelphia, serving primarily as a pinch-hitter.

Tom Hicks has agreed to sell the Texas Rangers to a group that includes Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan.The sides announced Saturday night that they had finally reached an agreement. The group is headed by Pittsburgh sports attorney Chuck Greenberg.

LAS VEGAS — Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts opened as a four-point favorite to beat New Orleans in the Super Bowl.Oddsmaker Sean Van Patten of Las Vegas Sports Consultants said the firm gave that line after watching New Orleans struggle to beat the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC championship game Sunday night. Las Vegas Sports Consultants provides betting lines for roughly 90 percent of sports books in Nevada.Indianapolis was a 4Z\x-point favorite in the Glantz-Culver line, with the over-under at 55½ points.Sports books gave Indianapolis 8-1 odds to win the Super Bowl at the start of the season, compared with 18-1 for New Orleans.
