CASTLE SHANNON — Numerous Butler County hockey players will be participating in the PIHL All-Star Games Saturday at the Ice Castle in Castle Shannon.

The Open Division game is at 11 a.m., followed by the Class A contest at 1 p.m., Class A at 3 and Class AAA at 5.

Forwards Michael Mazotta and Elliot Tisdale of Mars, Shane Gallagher and Neil DeCroo of Freeport, Neal Donnelly of Knoch; defensemen Tyler Whiteford of Mars, Nick Transue of Knoch, Nate King of Freeport; and goalies Ryan Naples of Knoch and Tyler Stepke of Mars will be in the Class A game.

Seneca Valley forward Sam Jarrett, Brandon Platt and Logan Pfeffer, and defenseman Kaleb Schwab will be in the Class AAA game.

LANCASTER — Seneca Valley volleyball players Meghan Drambel, Cate Seman and Alex Karika helped the Pittsburgh 3-Rivers Club win the 2010 Martin Luther King Kickoff Classic.Pittsburgh 3-Rivers finished 8-1 overall in the 35-team open division, defeating Timeout Black Ice 25-17, 25-17 for the championship.

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Former Slippery Rock University baseball player Rich Michalek recently signed with the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League.The infielder-outfielder was a career .355 hitter with The Rock over his four seasons.He batted .286 in three games with the Brockton Rox of the Can-Am League last season and played in the Kansas Jayhawk League, where he was league MVP in 2008.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — Chan Gailey was hired by the Buffalo Bills Tuesday, giving the former Dallas Cowboys coach a second chance to prove himself in the NFL and inheriting a team that has missed the playoffs for 10 straight years.Gailey was introduced by general manager Buddy Nix at a new conference that ended a two-month search to replace Dick Jauron, who was fired in November. Gailey takes over a team that finished 6-10 and becomes the Bills' fifth coach since Marv Levy retired after the 1997 season.
