JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley School District is renaming its high school gym the William F. Paul Gymnasium in honor of the late school board member.
Paul, who died in October after 42 years of membership on the Seneca Valley School Board, was an ardent Raiders basketball fan.
The renaming ceremony will take place at halftime of the Central Catholic-Seneca Valley boys basketball game Friday night. Paul's wife, Alice Lee, and sons Craig and David will attend.
Karns City High graduate Ashley Campbell scored 29 points as the Butler County Community College women's basketball team beat CCAC-South 73-38 Monday night.Seneca Valley graduate Sarah Beals added 14 points and Knoch grad Jessica Protzman pitched in 12 for the Pioneers (3-7), who host Lorain County (Ohio) Community College tonight.
Slippery Rock University junior forward Maron Brown was named PSAC West Player of the Week after averaging 24.5 points and 10 rebounds for The Rock.Brown scored 23 points and hit the game-winning 3-pointer with 10 seconds left to beat Mercyhurst Wednesday.He also scored 26 points in an 82-80 loss to Edinboro Saturday.
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Major league umpires overwhelmingly ratified a new five-year contract Monday that included increased flexibility on postseason assignments.The contract, which runs through 2014, does away with the prohibition against umpires working the World Series in consecutive seasons, a provision some in the union originally found difficult to digest.Management sought to add that language after a series of missed calls in the 2009 playoffs.
