Sure-shooting Planets boys prevail

Mars made 15-of-20 free throws in the fourth quarter to rally past Valley for a 62-55 boys basketball victory Tuesday night.

The Planets led by seven points at the half, but Valley stormed back with a 29-point third quarter.

Mars, though, settled down in the final period.

Christian Locher scored 18 points, Ian Hindley 17 and Brad Weischedel 15 for the Planets (5-3, 3-1).

Weischedel was 6-of-8 from the free throw line in the final quarter.

Seneca Valley placed third in the Trinity Area Elite Duals last weekend, defeating West Mifflin and Plum and losing to to Chartiers-Houston, Bethel Park and Trinity.Raiders 103-pounder Jake Perri won all five of his matches, three by pin, including a 4-second pin against Plum that tied a school record.Colton Schiever at 119 pounds, Nate Cully at 145 and Nick Marchi at 189 went 4-1, with Schiever and Cully getting two pins each.The Raiders' Aaron Schettler at 125, Jason Hildum at 135, Nick Phillips at 140 and Kyle Kukieza at 160 each had three wins.
