HARRISBURG — Jacob Rassau of Sarver and Hunter Scheerbaum of Boyers won their respective events in the Pennsylvania High School Rodeo at the Pennsylvania Farm Show recently.
Rassau won the afternoon and evening bull riding competition and is ranked third in the Pennsylvania High School Rodeo Association. Scheerbaum won the afternoon performance in steer wrestling.
JEFFERSON TWP — Ty Honzo of Saxonburg and Matt Eshelman of Butler, both members of the Knoch varsity hockey team, were selected to play for the Continental Junior Hockey League All-Stars.The league all-stars will participate in an All-Star Showcase weekend Saturday and Sunday in Buffalo, N.Y.Honzo and Eshelman also play for the Pittsburgh Penguins Selects hockey team.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Knoch graduate Natalie Beilstein won two events in her college debut at the University of Michigan.The freshman finished first in the vault with a 9.875 and first in the floor exercise with a 9.850 as Michigan defeated Iowa and Bowling Green before 2,662 fans at Crisler Arena.
CINCINNATI — Aroldis Chapman knew so little about baseball in the United States that before he could pick a team, he had to look at a map. The left-hander from Cuba had never seen a major league game on television and couldn't name all the teams.He finally settled on one that wears a distinctive "C" on its red cap, like the one he left.Chapman agreed Monday to a $30.25 million, six-year contract with the Cincinnati Reds, who view him as an important addition to their rotation down the road. The small-market club with limited payroll enticed him to Cincinnati, where he took a physical, signed a deal and saw snow for the first time.
