Kammerdiener

Joseph Oscar "Os" Kammerdiener, 83, of Eldorado Road, Parker, passed away at 1 a.m. Sunday at his home after having been ill since May.

He was born in Putneyville, Armstrong County, June 3, 1926, and was a son of the late William Oscar Kammerdiener and B. Alice Reedy Kammerdiener.

He was a member of the Karns City United Methodist Church and graduated from the Union High School in Rimersburg with the Class of 1945.

He enjoyed country music and played lead guitar and sang with Oscar and the Blue Boys for some 30 years. He also played with some big-name country stars, such as Kenny Biggs and George Jones, and some people said he sounded like Faron Young and Jim Reeves.

He served in the South Pacific as a bosom mate with the U.S. Navy in World War II at the Marshall Islands and Perry Islands, near Antiwitok and was a turret gunner aboard a PBY aircraft.

He was a member of the Parker City Allegheny Valley Lodge 521 F&AM of Parker, American Legion Post 0642 of Parker and the VFW Parker Post 7073.

He married the former Ellen M. Barr on Feb. 23, 1981, in Harrisville; and she survives along with his children from his first wife: Sally A. Lucas and her husband, Terry L. Sr., of Karns City, Joseph L. Kammerdiener of Kelleen, Texas, David P. Kammerdiener and his wife, Liz, of Punxsutawney, Richard D. Kammerdiener and his wife, Katherine, of Weyauwega, Wis., William G. Kammerdiener of Parker, and Jay O. Kammerdiener and his wife, Rabyune, of Glen Bernie, Md.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two stepchildren, Dana Miller of Butler and Mike Chattman of Michigan; a sister, Mrs. Alice King of Greenville; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death along with his parents are one son, Donald R. Kammerdiener on Dec. 9, 2006; two grandchildren, Davy Kammerdiener on Feb. 7, 2000, and Elana Kammerdiener on Nov. 15, 2005; four brothers, Donald, Darrel, Guy and Ralph Kammerdiener; three sisters, Edith Lorigan, Nora Ball and Clara Best; and his father-in-law, Chester B. Barr on Dec. 21, 2005.

<B>KAMMERDIENER</B> — Friends of Joseph Oscar "Os" Kammerdiener, who died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home </B>in Petrolia. Visitation also will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Karns City United Methodist Church with the Rev. Glea L. Foster, church pastor, and the Rev. Glenn B.
