Doretha A. Burke

Doretha A. Burke, 97, of Perry Township, Armstrong County, Queenstown Road, Karns City, died at 7:25 a.m. Friday at the HealthSouth Harmarville Rehabilitation Center Hospital, Harmarville, following an illness.

Born Dec. 2, 1912, in Hillville, Perry Township, Armstrong County, she was the daughter of the late Robert A. McIntyre and Anna C. Hooks McIntyre.

She was a longtime member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Bradys Bend, the AARP, and Senior Citizens of Bradys Bend, where she volunteered for past 16 years.

She attended school at Mooringsport, La., Butler, and Kaylor.

She enjoyed quilting and quilted more than 50 quilts at the senior center in Bradys Bend for the needy and veterans.

She married Daniel Francis Burke on Oct. 15, 1930, at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Bradys Bend, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 26, 1987.

Surviving are two sons, C. Kenneth Burke and his wife, Kathryn, of Perry Township, Armstrong County, and Leo F. Burke and his wife, Marlene, of Karns City; two daughters, Rose Marie Dunkle of Butler, and Alice Jean Barger and her husband, John L., of Perry Township, Armstrong County; nine granddaughters; 16 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; two step granddaughters; a number of step great-grandchildren; and a number of step great-great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Margaret DiPinto of East Brady; and a number of nieces and nephews and cousins.

Preceding her in death, along with her parents and husband, were a son-in-law, Bradley R. Dunkle on Jan. 30, 2001; a great-grandson, David Kammerdiener on Feb. 8, 2000; and five brothers, Harry, Dean, Edward, Wayne and Elton McIntyre.

<B>BURKE</B> — Friends of Doretha A. Burke, who died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home</B> in Petrolia.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in East Brady. Father Ron Cyktor Jr. will officiate.
