BRIDGES REBUILT IN CITY
The former Monroe Street Bridge in Butler that carried the road over rail lines was rebuilt and renamed in 2009. The new name, Lookout Point Bridge, reflects an old name for the area. The bridge took several years to reach the construction stage with the city lowering the amount of weight the original 80-year-old bridge could carry. Lookout Point was one of two major bridge projects built in the city this year; the rebuilding of the old Wayne Street Viaduct also occurred. The state Department of Transportation bought several properties around the old Wayne Street bridge, including the Viaduct Market, tearing them down to make way for the new bridge.
