Renea Marie (Byrns) Shields, 48, of Butler died at 8:05 p.m. Thursday at her home.

Born Aug. 5, 1961, in Jeannette, she was the daughter of Dr. James E. Byrns and Virginia L. (Menanno) Byrns.

Mrs. Shields was a graduate of Hempfield High School and BCI School of Business.

She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.

She was a homemaker and medical transcriptionist for various doctors' offices and hospitals.

Mrs. Shields is survived by her husband, Martin Shields, who she married May 14, 1983; four daughters, Kristen Shields of Butler, Hilliary Shields of Butler, Allisyn Shields of Butler, and Natalie Shields of Butler; her parents, Dr. James E. and his wife, Virginia L. Byrns, of Greensburg; and a sister, Dr. Koreen Byrns of Greensburg; a brother, James Thomas and his wife, Rebecca Byrns, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Isabelle Shields; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Shields was preceded in death by a sister, Stacy Byrns Burlas; an infant nephew, Stephen Byrns Burlas; her paternal grandparents, John and Amelia Byrns; and her maternal grandparents, Nicholas and Concetta Menanno.

<B>SHIELDS</B> — Friends of Renea Marie (Byrns) Shields, who died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.St. Paul and Christian Mothers will meet at 10:10 a.m. Monday at the church to recite the rosary.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family for an education fund to be established for Renea's daughters.
