Middlesex officials call for park plan

MIDDLESEX TWP — Supervisors will be ready to move quickly on grant programs for the township's 22-acre park by having site plans and specifications for the first phase.

Supervisors Wednesday night told their engineering firm, Herbert, Rowland and Grubic, to prepare the documents so the township will have plans to exhibit should funds become available. Township manager Scot Fodi said those who volunteer heavy equipment services or materials to the park also could see exactly what is needed if a blueprint existed.

A plan for the park also would allow the township to more easily apply for state permits needed to begin work, Fodi said.

Fodi said potential grants could be denied if the permits were not in place at the time of the grant application.

The park plan, which will take about six months to complete, will cost about $25,000. Money for the plan has been budgeted.

The plan's first phase would include grading for the new parking area between the existing football and baseball fields, replacing the aging playground with a new toddler play area and sandbox, building restrooms and installing a walkway from the parking area to the playground. A concrete sidewalk surrounding the proposed restroom building and connecting to the toddler playground also would be installed.

The park plan includes five phases.
