Raiders capture Coaches vs. Cancer event

Christian Durbin scored 24 points to lead the Seneca Valley boys basketball team to a 66-61 victory over Center Monday in the Coaches vs. Cancer Tournament at Ambridge High School.

Durbin sank all 11 of his free-throw attempts. Nate Herrmann and Joe Belechak added 13 and 12 points, respectively.

The win was the third in as many days for Seneca Valley, which captured the West Allegheny Tournament Saturday and Sunday.

Kristy Daubner was part of four victories for the Knoch girls squad, despite a 91-79 loss to Burrell.Daubner placed first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.78 seconds and won the 100 freestyle at 57.34.The Knights' 200 medley relay team of Nikki Krause, Jessica Gross, Stephanie Gross and Daubner won at 2:03.89.Jessica Gross, Leah Walsh, Stephanie Gross and Daubner won the 200 free relay at 1:52.06, while Jessica Gross also won the 100 breaststroke at 1:18.82.In the boys meet, Knoch fell to Burrell, 90-78, but several Knights had solid performances.Van McCarren won the 200 freestyle (1:59.72) and 500 freestyle (5:36.36), Cole Blaugher the 100 butterfly (1:04.14) and Josh Tackett the 100 backstroke (1:02.59).• Mars split with Hopewell, with the Planets girls winning 53-41 and the boys losing, 52-39. EquestrianMiranda Stoner placed first in the junior varsity beginner flat division for Butler during its meet at the Alfred (N.Y.) University Equestrian Center recently.Emily Teague placed fifth in that division. Samantha Farabee was sixth in junior varsity novice flat while Jamie Mager was fifth in future novice flat.Carissa Chilcott was second in future intermediate flat, sixth in future novice over fences. There were more than 215 riders in the competition.
