LaSota

Walter L. LaSota, 95, of Cranberry Township died Tuesday at his home surrounded by his family.

Born July 22, 1914, in Jackson, Mich., he was the son of the late Paul and Catherine (Glira) LaSota.

Mr. LaSota was a World War II U.S. Army veteran who served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and was awarded nine Bronze Stars.

He was a member of Harmony-Zelienople United Methodist Church, where he belonged to the Together Class.

Mr. LaSota retired as a chef from the Allegheny County Jail after more than 25 years. He also worked for five years as a chef at United Methodist Home in Mount Lebanon and volunteered his time cooking for Boy Scout camps and Harmony-Zelienople United Methodist Church.

Mr. LaSota enjoyed bowling, polka music and gardening, especially growing dahlias. He also enjoyed cooking for family and friends at their hunting camps.

He is survived by his wife, Delores (Buffington) Piper LaSota, who he married Aug. 7, 1982; and two stepdaughters, Diane Piper Marburger (Pastor Randall) of Mechanicsburg and Debra Piper McCorkle (Fred) of Knox. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and extended family members, Regis and Becky Rengers and Becky and Richard Lutz.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Esther M. LaSota; two stepsons, David and Dennis Piper; three brothers, Charles, Alex and Leo LaSota; and a sister, Blanche Courtney.

<B>LASOTA </B>— Friends of Walter L. LaSota, who died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at <B>Boylan Funeral Home</B>, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople. Friends also will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Harmony-Zelienople United Methodist Church, 123 N. Pittsburgh St., Zelienople, where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. John K. Jefferis and the Rev. Randall Marburger officiating.
