Dr. Fawd Khawaja has been appointed to the medical staff of Butler Memorial Hospital.

He is a member of the Three Rivers Cardiac Institute, specializing in cardiac, thoracic and vascular surgery.

Khawaja earned his bachelor's degree from Jacksonville University in Florida and his medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine.

He completed an internship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire, residencies at Louisiana State University in Shreveport and the University of Southern Alabama, and a thoracic fellowship at Boston Medical Center and the University of Tennessee.

These townships and sewage authorities have received state sewage facilities enforcement grants to reimburse permitting on-lot sewage systems in 2008.They are: Adams Township, $1,189; Butler County Sewage Authority, $95,233; Clinton Township, $2,478; Middlesex Township, Penn Township, $4,169; and Winfield Township, $1,637.

Butler County Chamber of Commerce will host these events:• 5 p.m. Friday, The Succop Conservancy, 185 W. Airport Road, the annual holiday gathering for chamber members.• 7 p.m. Dec. 12, at the Associated Artists of Butler County, 344 S. Main St., Butler, 2009 fashion show during the annual Holiday Show and Sale. Only 100 tickets available, $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Gov. Ed Rendell has reappointed these people to state boards:• A. Lee Williams of Slippery Rock to the state Board of Education, and• Paul Kaufman of Wexford to the state Board of Certified Real Estate Appraisers.
