Stephen F. Kern Jr.
Stephen F. Kern Jr., 95, of Portersville died early Sunday morning.
Born May 30, 1914, in Butler, he was the son of the late Stephen Sr. and Mary Janisch Kern.
Mr. Kern retired from Armco Steel Corp. in 1966 following 33 years of service. He had served as a Muddycreek Township Supervisor for 36 years, and had also been a Democratic committeeman for several years.
He originally started Kern Auto wrecking in Portersville; and he enjoyed flower gardening.
He was a member of St. Christopher at the Lake Catholic Church of Prospect.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Hertle Kern, who he had married June 19, 1940, and who died April 30, 2001. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Louis and Albert Kern.
Surviving are three sons and their spouses, Robert (Karen) Kern of New Castle, and Gerald (Pat) Kern, and Jerome (Angie) Kern, both of Portersville; two daughters, Rita Hayes (Ralph) of Butler; and Judy Book (Gary) of Portersville; six grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Malesh of Renfrew and Hilda Vawryk of Butler.
<B>KERN</B> — Friends of Stephen F. Kern Jr., who died Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Christopher at the Lake Catholic Church, 229 N. Franklin St., Prospect. The Rev. Matthew Tosello, pastor, will officiate.Burial will be at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, Butler.
