J. William Lawry Sr.

Lawry Sr.

John William "Bill" Lawry Sr., 90, of Centreville Pike, Slippery Rock, Brady Township, died at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday at his home.

Born in Munhall, Allegheny County, Aug. 29, 1919, he was the son of James Denley Lawry and Elizabeth Mary Zaugg Lawry.

He married Lois Jean Braddock on Nov. 16, 1940. She died Nov. 30, 1997.

He was a graduate of Homestead High School and was a Navy veteran.

Mr. Lawry retired as a machinist from Mesta Machine in New Castle in 1982.

He was a former member of the Slippery Rock American Legion and a former member of the Stanley Snyder Post VFW in Springfield Township, Mercer County.

Survivors include three sons, Gerald "Jerry" Lawry of Slippery Rock, John William "Bill" Lawry Jr. and his wife, Petra, of Slippery Rock and Mark Lawry and his wife, Andrea, of Avondale, Ariz.; and two daughters, Kathleen "Kathy" and her husband, James Sartori, of Indialantic, Fla., and Barbara and her husband, Warren Skoch, of Slippery Rock. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Frederick Lawry; and a sister, Mary Arabelle Yagello.

<B>LAWRY </B>— Friends of John William "Bill" Lawry Sr., who died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the <B>Smith Funeral home</B>, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. A Mass of Christian burial service will be observed at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Peter Roman Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Kevin Poecking, pastor of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, presiding.Memorial contributions may be given to the VNA Hospice of Western Pennsylvania, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001-2417, www.vna.com.
