Joseph H. Johnston
Joseph Harold Johnston, 93, of Ford City died Tuesday at Kittanning Care Center.
Born June 19, 1916, in Adrian, he was the son of the late William Johnston and the late Annie (Houser) Johnston.
He retired in 1983 from the Army Corps of Engineers as lockmaster at Lock No. 5 after 42 years. He also was a salesman for Knapp Shoes for 35 years.
He served in the Army during World War II
Mr. Johnston was a member of the Kittanning-East Brady Lodge 244 F&AM and the Antique Automotive Club in Kittanning.
Joseph enjoyed lawn work, gardening in "The Johnston Park," collecting brass, attending car shows, camping and hunting.
He is survived by two sons, Ronald Johnston and his wife, Joan, of Kittanning and David Johnson and his wife, Sally, of Long Island, N.Y.; four daughters, Jane Paine and her husband, Ronald, of Kittanning, Gail Ramsey and her husband, Jimmy, of Memphis, Tenn., Donna Balla and her husband, Lewis, of Ford City and Lonna Beth Tomaswick and her husband, David, of Ford City; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Lash) Johnston, who died May 21, 2008; a son, Joseph "Denny" Johnston, who died March 3, 2009; six brothers; three sisters; and one great-grandson, Matthew Johnston.
<B>JOHNSTON</B> — Friends of Joseph Harold Johnston, who died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at <B>SNYDER-CRISSMAN FUNERAL HOME </B>in Kittanning. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Stan Schillfarth officiating.
