King

John "Jack" H. King, 79, of Butler passed away at 4:27 p.m. Friday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 29, 1930, in Butler, the son of the late Mont King and the late Viola Ellen (Crammer) King.

He had been a truck driver for Marmon Keystone and also delivered for NAPA.

A veteran of the Army, he served in the Korean War, where he was a prisoner-of-war and escapee. He was one of seven who survived out of his battalion.

He was a member of the VFW Post 249, the American Legion and the Slovak Club.

He enjoyed reading, fishing and cooking and loved animals.

Surviving are his daughter, Amy (Travis) Squyres of Butler; two grandchildren, Maria and Ian Squyres; three sisters, Janet McCaw, Delores (Roger) Bennett and Judith (Howard) Morgan; and two brothers, Gary (Karen) King Sr. and Donald (Daneen) King.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Joann (Maroni) King, who died Sept. 6, 2003; and a sister.

<B>KING</B> — Friends of John "Jack" H. King, who died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 until time of service at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>Young Funeral Home</B>, 127 W. Jefferson St., with Christian Watts of Living Bridge Church officiating.
