CONNELLSVILLE — A mother of three was identified as the first person to die of swine flu in Fayette County in southwestern Pennsylvania.

Deputy Coroner Marisa Springer said the woman died earlier this month. The woman was in her early 30s and did not have any other medical conditions or ailments when she died.

Springer said tests on autopsy samples confirmed the woman had the H1N1 virus, also known as the swine flu.

Friends told Pittsburgh-area media outlets the woman was 31 years old and lived in Connellsville. She is survived by her parents and three young children.

PITTSBURGH — Officials at Pittsburgh's new slot machine casino said security officers, surveillance agents and technicians have rejected union representation.The Rivers Casino workers voted in secret whether to join the International Union, Security, Police and Fire Professionals of America.The ballot was conducted by the National Labor Relations Board.Casino officials didn't immediately release the ballot totals or say when the vote was taken, only that the union bid was rejected.

HARRISBURG — A bill to ban text messaging while driving in Pennsylvania is headed to the House floor.The bill won a unanimous vote of support Tuesday from the House Transportation Committee.The legislation would ban texting by all drivers and prohibit drivers under 18 from using hand-held cell phones when they're behind the wheel.The bill would make violations a primary offense, meaning police could stop drivers if officers witness them breaking the law. The penalty would be a $50 fine, or $100 if the violation occurs in a school or work zone.However, insurers could not increase premiums of drivers for violating the law.The sponsor, Rep. Joe Markosek, D-Allegheny, said he hopes floor action will be taken before the end of the year.
