Edward T. "Ed" Brooks, 55, of Clinton Township, Saxonburg, assistant chief of the Adams Township Police Department, died unexpectedly of natural causes on Thursday afternoon in the emergency room at Alle-Kiski Medical Center in Natrona Heights.

Born on Nov. 22, 1953, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Dorothy Drake Brooks of Allison Park and the late James Robert Brooks.

Ed was the assistant chief of police for Adams Township. Ed was the public relations liaison for the Mars School District for the DARE Program and was the former chief of police for the Middlesex Township Police Department for many years. He was a member of the Butler County Police Chief's Association and the Fraternal Order of Police.

He was a member of the Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church in Glade Mills, and the National Rifle Association.

Surviving are his wife, Leslie Bridgeman, who he married on Jan. 15, 1994; his sons, Patrick, Gregory, Ethan and Stephen Brooks, all at home; his mother, Dorothy Drake Brooks; a sister, Ann Brooks (Donald Mann) of Squirrel Hill; and two brothers, Donald Brooks (Laurie) of New Jersey and David Brooks (Lauren) of Massachusetts. He also is survived by his in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews.

<B>BROOKS</B> — Friends of Edward T. "Ed" Brooks, who died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home</B>, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars.A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church, Route 8, Glade Mills, with Rev. Charles Bober, pastor of St. Kilian Church, officiating.Law enforcement officials participating in the funeral are asked to meet at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Pittsburgh Street lot of the funeral home.Memorials for the benefit of the Brooks children, payable to Leslie Bridgeman, should be sent to Chief Bill Westerman, Adams Township Municipal Building, 690 Valencia Rd., Mars, PA 16046.Directions and condolences are available at www.mcdonald-aeberli.com.
