Uncapher

Howard R. "Jonah" Uncapher, 86, of East Brady, formerly of Turkey City, died Wednesday morning at his home following a lengthy illness.

Born Feb. 13, 1923, in Turkey City, he was a son of the late Samuel G. and Velma J. Dunkle Uncapher.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army as a light-machine gunner. He was awarded the EAME Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, the American Service Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal.

On July 10, 1954, he married the former Delores Early, who survives.

Mr. Uncapher was a high-lift operator, working for Knox Glass until his retirement in 1985.

He enjoyed working on watches and lawn mowers and spending time with his grandchildren, who were the love of his life. He collected watches and clocks.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Michael R. Uncapher of Knox and Ricky L. Uncapher of Punxsutawney; two daughters, Diana Shumaker and her husband, Michael, of Karns City and Joann Knight and her companion, Brian, of Turkey City; four grandchildren, Amy Fierst and her husband, John, of Sharpsville, Christopher Shumaker of Pittsburgh, Wesley Knight of Grove City and Carly Knight of Edinboro; and a brother, Jack Uncapher and his wife, Audene, of Oil City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harry and William; and two sisters, Helen Love and Betty Neely.

<B>UNCAPHER</B> — Friends of Howard R. "Jonah" Uncapher, who died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the <B>William N. Rupert Mortuary</B>, 430 Mendenhall Ave., Knox. Funeral services will be at noon Saturday in the funeral home. The Rev. Randy Evans, Clarion/Forest VNA Hospice chaplain, will officiate.
