Robert Ravotti, 61, of Freeport passed away at 10:30 a.m. Monday at his home while in the company of family members.

He served as the mayor of Freeport for the past 28 years.

He was born in Freeport, Aug. 30, 1948, the son of the late Mario and Clara (Conti) Ravotti Sr.

Bob served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant during the Vietnam War.

He was a staff representative for the U.S. Steel Workers of America in Pittsburgh for 20 years and had just retired this month. He previously had worked for 19 years as a boilermaker at the now closed US Steel Saxonburg Cindering Plant.

He was a lifetime member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Freeport.

He was a life member of the Freeport Volunteer Fire Department and was a past president and assistant chief. He was a member of the Western Pennsylvania Fireman's Association and the Armstrong County Fireman's Association. He was a life member of the White Star Club and the Freeport Eagles Club.

Bob enjoyed hunting, cooking, golfing and going to his camp.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Beverley (Swartz) Ravotti; his son and daughter-in-law, Dominic and Erin (Cook) Ravotti of Worthington; his five brothers, Mario (Barbara) Ravotti Jr. of Freeport, Raymond (Loretta) Ravotti of Freeport, Edward "Butch" Ravotti of Natrona Heights, Guido (Sandra) Ravotti of Freeport and Allen (Loretta) Ravotti of Ford City; his two sisters, Theresa (Roger) Kalmeyer of Freeport and Della (William) Miller of Queensland, Australia; and many, many nieces and nephews.

Bob is preceded in death by his brother, Dominic J. Ravotti, who passed in 1987.

<B>RAVOTTI</B> — Family and friends of Robert Ravotti, who died Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, are being received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the <B>Redmond Funeral Home Inc., </B>524 High St., Freeport. A parish wake service will be held at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.A parting prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Freeport. Monsignor William R. Rathged will be officiating.
