JACKSON TWP — Is there a letdown in store for the Seneca Valley football team?

Raiders coach Don Holl says there isn't.

SV is coming off an emotional win, rebounding from a 17-0 deficit in the fourth quarter to defeat host Pine-Richland 19-17.

The victory clinched a WPIAL Quad A playoff spot for the Raiders, but the team has one regular season game remaining against Butler (0-8, 0-4) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at SV's NexTier Stadium.

The winner will receive the Butler Eagle Traveling Trophy. SV has won it two straight years. The Raiders have never won the trophy three straight seasons.

"I'm not concerned about our kids getting up for this game," said Holl. "Last week was a big win for us, but we've turned the page. We're playing for the trophy and I'm sure Butler wants to come in here and end their season with a win."

Though Holl plans to win many more games at SV, last week's triumph is his signature win to date.

"I thought we would come out last week and give our best effort the entire game, but it didn't happen that way," he said. "I really can't explain why we didn't play well in the first half, but I knew that our kids are resilient."

With 181 yards passing last week, quarterback Donny Holl now has 1,004 yards to go with four touchdowns and five interceptions. He's also rushed for a team-leading eight scores.

One player making plays for the Raiders (4-4, 2-2) is senior tight end/defensive tackle Andrew Smith.

At 6-feet-3 and 220 pounds, Smith has proved to be Donny Holl's favorite target with 20 catches for 259 yards and two touchdowns.

"He's a big, strong athlete who's a tough matchup for teams," said Coach Holl. "He is very talented and on defense, he's very tough to block."

Smith has totaled 51 tackles, including 40 solo stops and three sacks.

Linebacker Luke Mueller and defensive back David Mellon are the team's top tacklers, with 70 and 56, respectively. The former also paces the team with 10 tackles for loss.

The Raiders can secure third place in the Northern Six Conference with either a win or a North Hills loss at North Allegheny, which already has clinched the top spot in the conference.

The Butler Eagle Traveling Trophy has been awarded to the SV-Butler winner since 1993. Both teams have won it eight times.

"I think it's a good idea," said Coach Holl of the trophy. "You've got two Quad A schools in the county served by the same newspaper. It's a good way to recognize the rivalry every year."
