QUESTION: Why are you running?ROGERS: I believe that persons who care about the futures of their municipalities should become involved in governance when the opportunity presents itself and when their lives can accommodate the commitment. This can take many forms — borough or city council, school board, local park/recreation boards and involvement in issue-related organizations.I am running for re-election so I can continue to bring my strengths — methodical thinking, conflict resolution, effective listening and ingenuity — to our borough council.
clutter: I am running as a write-in again for mayor as I feel that it is time for a change. I would appreciate the resident's vote for council member again if unable to write in for mayor.
QUESTION: What are the top three issues facing your municipality?ROGERS: To improve communication, I proposed a quarterly newsletter and a council Web site. When completed, these will provide first-hand knowledge to all residents. Street improvements stalled when state grant programs were cut back. Our police department relies heavily on part-time officers who must juggle commitments. Council is aggressively pursuing solutions to these issues. This Council does not concentrate on "ownership" of proposals, but rather on making thoughtful, responsible decisions that pull together our best ideas.
CLUTTER: 1. I would work with borough officials and governmental agencies as mayor/council member to assist in obtaining grants and financial assistance to complete its road projects;2. I would work with the borough council members in contacting the county drug task force to concentrate more individual attention to the borough along with our own local and surrounding police officers. In response to the speed issue, I believe that contacting the state to see what would be necessary to lower the speed limit through the borough streets so that we can keep our residents safe in shopping in our downtown business district.3. I feel as mayor and council member that the name of Mars is unique. I would like to seek out professional assistance through local businesses and other appropriate government agencies to have our own official license for the Borough of Mars as I feel that we are "special" people and Mars is special.
