Grant "Shorty" Lyons, 87, of Mars, formerly of Eastvale, died Wednesday.

Born April 8, 1922, in West Brownsville, he was a son of the late Freeman Grant Lyons and Lucinda "Lula" Ellen (McDonough) Lyons.

He married Ethel "Ecky" Florence (Stanton) Lyons on June 5, 1948, in Beaver Falls.

He was the last surviving sibling of his family.

He was an employee of the Hydril Co. in Rochester for 50 years, and was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Chippewa Township.

A member of the U.S. Marine Corps, he served as a corporal in the Pacific theater during World War II.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Leonard, Henry, Charles, Lewis Raymond, Lawrence Edward, Howard, Gilbert Graham and Allen Lyons; sisters, Bessie Lyons, Sarah (Lyons) Austin, Margaret Genevieve (Lyons) Stimmel and Luella Lyons; daughters, Lula Ann (Lyons) Vogel and Rosemary (Lyons) Seybert; a son-in-law, David M. Cobb Sr.; a grandson, David M. Cobb Jr.; and great-grandsons, Nicholas and Nathen Miller.

Surviving are two sons, Grant Lyons Jr. of Eastvale and Gilbert Raymond Lyons of New Galilee; a daughter and son-in-law, Alene Elaine (Lyons-Cobb) and Ron Ashurst of New Sewickley Township; two sons-in-law, Robert L. Vogel of Chippewa Township and John H. Seybert of North Sewickley Township; 12 grandchildren, John and Amy Seybert of College Hill, Brad and Stephanie Seybert of North Sewickley Township, Heather and Harold Adrian of South Beaver Township, Missy and Brian Miller of Baden, Bobby and Francine Vogel of Darlington, Colleen Lyons and Mike White of Eastvale, Bobbie Lyons of Beaver Falls, Jessie Cobb and David Ellis of Beaver Falls, Autumn Ashurst of New Sewickley Township and Chasity Plum, Gilbert Plum and Ashley Plum, all of Beaver Falls; 25 great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Mike Mitchell and Nellie Laftus of New Brighton and Bill and Esther Stimmel of Brownsville; and a sister-in-law, Helen Stanton of Beaver Falls. He also is survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews on the Lyons and Stanton sides of his family.

<B>LYONS</B> — Friends of Grant "Shorty" Lyons, who died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m. Saturday in the <B>LUTTON BEAVER FALLS FUNERAL HOME</B>, 1117 Fifth Ave., Beaver Falls. Pastor Thomas H. Ranney and the Rev. Steve Morris will officiate.
