Jennifer Taylor competed in the State Grange talent competition Oct. 18 in Johnstown.There were three divisions of talent: vocal, variety and instrumental. Taylor won the variety title and was named Best of Show for her ventriloquism act.She will compete in November at the National Grange convention in Grand Rapids, Mich.Taylor is a freshman at Grove City College. A 2009 graduate of Karns City High School, she is the daughter of Ernie and Bobbie Taylor of Butler.———
Butler Rotarians donated more than $12,000 in recognition of World Polio Day. Since 1985, eradicating polio has been Rotary's top philanthropic goal. The Butler Club has donated more than $100,000 since the campaign began in the early 1990s.As part of a $355 million challenge grant awarded to Rotary by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Rotary clubs worldwide are striving to raise $200 million by 2012. Nearly $100 million has already been raised.The funding will support polio eradication activities, such as the distribution of the new bivalent polio vaccine in countries still battling the disease.Rotary has contributed more than $800 million and countless volunteer hours to the protection of more than two billion children in 122 countries. The disease remains endemic in four countries: Afghanistan, India, Nigeria and Pakistan. Other countries remain at risk for imported cases.———
