FRANKLIN — The Game Commission's Northwest Regional office announced that special flintlock and late archery deer hunt days will be held at Pymatuning Wildlife Management Area Dec. 22 and Jan. 12
Hunters will need permits, and a total of 60 flintlock and 30 archery permits will be issued for each day. Hunters also must have valid deer tags.
The deadline for applications is 1 p.m. Nov. 6, and the public drawing is 10 a.m. Nov. 7.
Applications are available by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Pennsylvania Game Commission, Northwest Region, P.O. Box 31, Franklin PA 16323.
Individuals should specify that they are requesting an application for the "Pymatuning Flintlock/Late Archery Special Hunt."
Those awarded permits can use valid antlerless deer tags issued to them for Wildlife Management Unit 1A, as well as unfilled antlered deer tags. Hunters are reminded that antler restrictions in WMU 1A require legal bucks to have at least four points on one side.

HARRISBURG — Although it didn't appear in this year's "Hunting & Trapping Digest," the regulation that requires hunters and trappers to display licenses in the middle of their backs is still in force. When the Pennsylvania Game Commission was drafting the digest, it was believed that a Pennsylvania House bill allowing hunters and trappers to keep licenses in their wallets instead would be enacted before the start of the license year July 1.To avoid potentially conflicting information, a decision was made to modify the wording about the requirement that licenses must be displayed."License buyers do need to remember that the digest is not the Game & Wildlife Code or its attendant regulations and should not be considered final on legal interpretation," said Carl G. Roe the commission's executive director."In printing the digest, the agency simply summarizes the more important and frequently misunderstood hunting and trapping regulations," he added
