PITTSBURGH — A man already serving two long prison sentences has been ordered to stand trial in the death of a Pittsburgh man who died 10 years after he was shot.

Prosecutors say 38-year-old Keith Drain shot Alonzo Thompkins in the back in 1999 in Pittsburgh. Thompkins, of Monroeville, was paralyzed and died in March from organ failure caused by sepsis. After his death, prosecutors charged Drain with homicide.

A police officer testified at a preliminary hearing Friday that Thompkins identified Drain by his nickname, "Banger," right after he was shot. Drain, an inmate at the state prison in Greene County, is serving decades for pointing a gun at an undercover police officer, attacking a prison guard and robbery.
