Michaels

Samuel Michaels, 83, formerly of Hansen Avenue, died Sunday morning at the Lowrie House, Butler.

Born March 20, 1926, in Butler, he was a son of the late Tony and Hapse (Moses) Michaels.

He was co-owner of Michaels Bar in the Greater Butler Mart and also had worked in the maintenance department at the VA Butler Healthcare. Prior to that, he worked at the Butler Packing Co.

Sam was a member of the St. Anthony Antiochian Orthodox Church, where he was a founder of the church. He was life member of VFW Post 249, American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora, the D.A.V., Butler Chapter and a life member of the Slovak Club in Lyndora. He also was a former member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Butler.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army.

Surviving are a son, Richard S. Michaels and his wife Seba, of Butler; a brother, Andy Michaels of Butler; a sister, Mrs. Mary Bunn of Butler; and two grandchildren, Lisa Winwood and her husband John, of Butler and Samuel J. Michaels of Evanston, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Isabelle L. Michaels, whom he married March 11, 1944. She died April 3, 1986. A grandson, four brothers and a sister also preceded him in death.

<B>MICHAELS</B> — Friends of Samuel Michaels, who died Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Gregory Long, pastor of St. Anthony Antiochian Orthodox Church, will officiate.
