Is it put up or shut up time?

Moniteau and Keystone both feel that way as two teams with identical 3-2 records collide at 7 p.m. Friday in Knox.

"I put in the game package I gave to the kids Monday that this is a must win for us," Moniteau coach Jeff Campbell said. "This game's all about momentum. We didn't play well early in the season.

"I didn't have the right personnel in the right places. It's been a struggle for us, getting to this point."

Keystone struggled last week, losing a 60-35 decision at Karns City after at least being competitive in its first four games.

"We didn't show up at Karns City," Panthers coach Jason Nellis said. "We were flat, had five turnovers — we picked the wrong game to do that kind of stuff.

"Moniteau's a big game for us. They're inexperienced, but talented, and they seem to have straightened things out."

Moniteau switched from the 34 to a 43 defense recently. Campbell figures that switch will be put to the test against Keystone's spread offense.

Panthers quarterback Dan Reed has passed for 1,153 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also leads his team in rushing with 246 yards and five TDs. Zach Smith has rushed for 169 yards and three scores.

Ben Marchand has 18 catches for 373 yards and six TDs, Brett Zuck 20 catches for 444 yards and four TDs.

"Dan runs the ball a lot on option plays, rolling out or scrambling," Nellis said. "He's our playmaker."

Moniteau is keyed by James Shope's 633 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. He is averaging just under 9 yards per carry. Quarterback Kyle Armagost has passed for 384 yards and four TDS, and rushed for 306 yards and six TDs.

"Shope is one fast back," Nellis said. "His speed will kill us if we don't contain him."

"We have to contain Dan Reed and they have to contain James Shope," Campbell said. "That's a big part of this game, though Kyle is progressing well as our quarterback. He's seeing things a lot better."

Hampton (3-2, 1-0) at Knoch (0-5, 0-1) 7:30 p.m., FridayThe Knights defeated Hampton 21-16 last year as the Talbots struggled to a 1-8 final record under then first-year coach Jacque DeMatteo. ... Titusville, which is also the Rockets, have been shut out three times this season, including a 6-0 loss to Reynolds that broke the Raiders' 19-game losing streak. ... Karns City (5-0) at Redbank Valley (2-3) 7 p.m., FridayKarns City rolled up nearly 500 yards of offense in a 60-35 win over Keystone last week. ... Junior quarterback Dylan Hipple continued to impress, throwing for 148 yards on 7-of-9 passing and a touchdown. He also ran for a 44-yard score. ... The Karns City defense has held its last two opponents, Clarion-Limestone and Keystone, to minus-20 yards and seven yards rushing respectively. ... Redbank Valley has three running backs who have rushed for more than 200 yards this season. Shiloh Buchleitner leads the RV ground game with 275 yards. ... Buchleitner has also filled in at time at quarterback for starter Brandon Bain. ... Since 1996, the Gremlins are 95-14 in the Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference and 121-31 overall.

In place of Dan Walters, quarterback Brandon Heeter threw three touchdown passes, including two to Cody Renninger, while Kris Burkhart rushed for 156 yards on 19 carries. Burkhart filled in for Bubba Rue, who missed the game due to a concussion he suffered the week before. ... The Golden Knights were blanked by Moniteau 25-0 last week. Last year, Summit Academy prevailed 27-6. ... The Wolves were routed 40-0 by Deer Lakes last week. In the first five weeks, the Wolves have been outscored 250-3 and have surrendered at least 40 points in each contest. ... The Knights dropped a tough 21-12 decision to Valley, who scored twice in the final 5:48 of Saturday's game. Jermaine Jenkins rushed for one touchdown and Sean McDonald caught a scoring pass from Quran Reaves. ... Despite the winless start, the Knights are surrendering only 209 total yards per game, second best among the 12 Butler County-area teams.
