GIBSONIA — More than 50 golfers supported the fifth annual Leading the Links Golf Open on Sept. 21 at the Butler Country Club.
The winning foursome was
Douglas Day of St. Barnabas Health System,
Joe LaMarca and
Shawn McCann of Lexus of North Hills and
C.J. Bens of Provident Agency.The tournament's celebrity golfer was Andy Russell, former Pittsburgh Steeler and two-time Super Bowl champion. Today, Russell is vice president of Liberty Tire.Sponsors of the golf tournament were Acusis, NET Xperts, NexTier Bank, Universal Stainless and Alloy Products, and Wells Fargo Insurance.Proceeds benefited the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund.—————-
Ten teachers at <B>Broad Street Elementary</B> were awarded gift cards at a Sept. 22 ceremony at the school.The cards are part the Teacher Rewards Program run by the Wal-Mart Foundation. Through the program, local Wal-Mart or Sam's Club stores select 10 public school teachers to receive gift cards.The teachers can use the cards to purchase classroom supplies.—————-<B>Jordon McKim</B> and <B>Corrine Williams</B>, both students at Mars High School, helped Rotarians in the Pittsburgh area on Aug. 29 to feed 55,000 people in support of the Pittsburgh and Cranberry Community Food Banks.The effort is an ongoing project of the Rotary clubs in the Pittsburgh area in response to reports of a 30 percent increase in requests for help from local food banks.Jordon and Corrine were able to bring enough packaged food to the food bank at St. Ferdinand Roman Catholic Church to feed more than 1,000 people.—————-<BR><BR><BR><BR>
