Council conducts workshop on collection, use of rainwater

RICHLAND TWP, Allegheny County — The Pennsylvania Resources Council will have a workshop from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, detailing how to collect and use rain water.

The program costs $30 per person or $40 per couple and will be at the Richland Municipal Building, 4019 Dickey Road.

The workshop is to raise awareness of watershed issues, demonstrate how to assemble and install a retrofitted 55-gallon rain barrel, and to introduce other rainwater collecting options.

Participants will receive the necessary hardware, except the barrel, to install a rain barrel for rainwater harvesting.

The PRC encourages rain water collection to improve water quality in rivers and streams by reducing people's contribution to sewer overflow, flooding and polluted urban and suburban runoff.
