Lucille "Lucy" Heimbuecher Koenig, formerly of Bakerstown and Mars, who has lived in New Jersey the past four years, passed away Thursday to be with our Lord. Her love, friendships and sense of humor will be deeply missed.

Lucille was born Feb. 15, 1922, in Millvale, daughter of Louis and Cecilia Heimbuecher and sister to Mary, Virginia "Bussy," and Ruth "TT."

Lucille was married to Robert F. Koenig Sr., and they started the first funeral home in Bakerstown, which is now the Schellhaas Funeral Home.

Lucy and Bob raised four children, retired Col. Robert F. Koenig Jr., married to Eileen Marcinko, of Colorado Springs Colo., Kris Koenig Bost, married to Mike Bost of Long Valley, N.J., Luanne Koenig, and John Koenig, married to Barb Rausch, of Mars.

Lucy received a scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh, where she graduated summa cum laude with a degree in business education in 1944.

One of her fondest memories was her cross-country trip to California with dear friends.

While raising her children, Lucy taught typing and business English along with being a Girl Scout leader and assisting Bob at the funeral home. Lucy went on to enjoy working as an administrative assistant at the North Pittsburgh Telephone Co., where she made many friends.

Her home was the center of the family holiday gatherings for decades as she loved bringing us all together and coordinating these festive activities. She loved to laugh and always enjoyed trading good jokes. Her co-workers appreciated the humor she brought to her office.

She attended the First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown and later, the Mars United Presbyterian Church, and for the last four years, Valley View Chapel in Long Valley, N.J. She knew Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and loved regular worship.

Lucille dearly loved all of her family and was a loving grandmother to her five grandchildren, Brooke Koenig, Christopher Koenig, Michael John Bost, Ellen Koenig and Julie Koenig; and her great-grandson, Kai. She cared deeply for all of her extended family including all of her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Luanne; her husband, Bob; and her sisters, Ruth and Mary.
