Steele

Catherine Steele, 75, of Chicora died at 2:55 p.m. Monday in ACMH Hospital, Kittanning, surrounded by her loving family following a shor illness.

She was born in Chicora, Aug. 23, 1934, the daughter of the late Leroy F. Rodgers and the late Emma D. Kiser Rodgers.

She gradated from Karns City High School and worked 10 years at the Mushroom Mine in West Winfield. She then worked at Chicora Medical Center, starting as a nurse's aide; and then she worked in maintenance, where she retired after 20 years.

Mrs. Steele was a member of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church of Chicora, the Chicora Women of the Moose and the Roy Frick Booher American Legion Post 325 Ladies Auxiliary of Cowansville.

Surviving are a daughter, Dawn Ann Landgraf and her husband, Ralph, of Driftwood, Elk County; five sons, William Steele and his wife, Deborah, of Waterbury, Conn., Richard Steele and his wife, Deborah, of Chicora, Barry Steele of Chicora, Joseph Steele of Chicora and Andrew Steele Jr. of California; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Ryan and her husband, Charles Sr., of Chicora.

Her husband, Andrew D. Steele Sr., who she married Sept. 6, 1952, died Nov. 26, 2006. She also was preceded in death by a son, Gregory Allen Steele; a grandson, Jeremy Lynn Steele; three brothers, Walter Young, John "Jack" Young and Leroy "Bud" Rodgers; and two sisters, Emma May Titley and Lillian Serafine.

<B>STEELE</B> — Friends of Catherine Steele, who died Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at <B>Steighner Funeral Home</B>, 111 E.
