Mark Stephen Smith
Mark Stephen Smith, 50, of Petrolia is now home with his Lord Sunday after a courageous battle with cancer. He was at his home surrounded by family and friends.
Born May 6, 1959, he was the son of the late John J. Smith and Mary (Stanko) Smith.
He was a 1977 graduate of Butler High School.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie (Smail) Smith, who he married June 1, 2002, and two stepchildren, Doug Zimmerman (Melissa) and Kirsten Frye (Aaron). There are two surviving grandchildren, Acelyn Zimmerman and Alexis Frye. He also is survived by six siblings, John Smith, Christine (John) Robic, Thomas (Nancy) Smith, Helen (Terry) Christy, Phylis (Doug) Logan and Roxanne (Jeff) Lackey; his in-laws, Dennis (Pat) Smail, Diana (Steve) Ignatz, Dana (Todd) Roach and Dave Pacoe; several nieces and nephews; his stepmother, Helen Smith; several stepbrothers and sisters; and Shari Blatt and Kim (Vince) Masi, who he has known since childhood.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marianne Pacoe.
He worked at AK Steel for the past 20 years as a crane operator and was a union mason.
He enjoyed hunting, traveling to Punta Cana and other resort locations, spending time with his family, and cheering for his favorite Pittsburgh teams.
<B>SMITH — </B>Friends of Mark Stephen Smith, who died Sunday, Aug. 30, 2009, will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St.Visitation also will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Harvest Community Church in Fairview. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev.
