Rome

John F. Rome, 85, of Herman passed away Monday at VA Butler Healthcare following a short illness.

He was born Sept. 2, 1923, in Braddock, a son of the late Louis and Mary Rome.

John had served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in which he received several medals including a bronze star that he earned in the European theater of war.

He worked for Moonlight Mushrooms for 43 years and retired as a supervisor in 1982. He also owned and operated Rome's Deer Processing for 45 years.

John enjoyed golfing, watching sports, fishing and cutting wood.

His wife, Blanche Wissinger Rome, who he married May 11, 1946, survives. Also surviving are his son, Ronald J. Rome of Herman; two daughters, Mrs. Steven (Nancy) Behrik of Sarver and Mrs. Robert (Sandra) Kudelka of Herman; and three brothers, Louis, Francis and William Rome. Seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Ann Hunt, in 2002; and his daughter-in-law, Linda Rome, in March 2009.
