Ruth E. McGarrity Curtis, 81, of Fairview, near Petrolia, passed away Saturday evening at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh following a brief illness.

Born in Porter Township, Clarion County, Dec. 15, 1927, she was a daughter of the late George and Sarah Kammerdiener Kespelher.

Ruth had worked at the glove factory in Brookville, the ROLA Corp. at Hawthorne, and the former Glass Containers Corp. at Parker.

She was a Protestant.

Ruth was known for her ability to crochet.

Surviving are two daughters, Rose Knight of Jamestown, Pa., and Karen Himes of Brookville; two sons, Thomas P. McGarrity Jr. of Fairview, near Petrolia, and David McGarrity of Chicora; and one sister, Catherine Guthrie of West Pittsburgh. Eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and a number of nieces and nephews survive.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas P. McGarrity Sr., who passed in February 1964; and by her second husband, William D. Curtis who passed May 13, 2009. She also was preceded by a granddaughter, Michelle Himes, and a number of siblings.

<B>CURTIS</B> — Friends of Ruth E. McGarrity Curtis, who died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2009, may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the <B>H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home</B>, Wayne Street, Parker. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery, Oak Ridge, near Hawthorne.Information also is available at www.buzardfuneralhomes.com.
