ALLENTOWN — Police and animal control officers in the Lehigh Valley have captured a 6-foot alligator that was sunning itself in a city park.

Allentown Police Capt. Stephen Mould says a passer-by called police around noon Wednesday after seeing the reptile on the bank of a creek inside Jordan Park.

Officers pinned the 130-pound alligator and secured its snout closed with tape. Mould says it was transferred to a reptile farm in the Poconos.

Police believe the animal may have been an abandoned pet.
