Hills

Lansing Carpenter Hills, 79, of North Charleston, S.C., died peacefully Thursday at his home.

Born Sept. 11, 1929, in Albany, N.Y., he was one of three children of Frank W. Hills and Florence Lansing Hills. He grew up in Watervliet, N.Y.

Mr. Hills graduated from Heatly High School in Green Island, N.Y., in 1947. He earned his bachelor of science degree in 1952 and a master's degree the following year from Springfield College, Springfield, Mass.

Mr. Hills was the hospital director of the Huntington Veterans Administration Medical Center in Huntington, W.Va., and retired from civil service after 35 years.

He was a volunteer with the American Red Cross and was a 100 gallon plus blood donor. He and his wife volunteered at the Trident Medical Center, Charleston, S.C.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Caroline C. Hills of North Charleston, S.C; a son, Peter C. Hills and his wife, Cynthia A., of Butler; daughters, Deborah J. Carlson and her husband, Paul F., of Ladson, S.C., and Barbara L. Kochman and her husband, Kenneth M., of Bridgeville, Pa; a sister, Cynthia Hills Jackson and her husband, John H., of Randolph, Vt.; a sister-in-law, Katheryn V. Hills of Round Lake, N.Y.; grandchildren, Joel Lansing Hills, Christian McKenzie Hills, Rebecca Lynn Carlson, Andrea Grace Carlson, Kenneth Michael Kochman II and his wife, Betsy, and Jonathan Peter Kochman.

He was preceded in death by his brother, James L. Hills.
