Horstman

Francis C. "Frank" Horstman, 85, of Herman passed away Sunday at his residence.

Born in Herman, Aug. 14, 1923, he was the son of the late Walter and Catherine Birckbichler Horstman.

He was a retired millwright at U.S. Steel in Saxonburg, where he was employed for 27 years. He also was a lifelong farmer in the Herman area.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the European theater; and he was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman. He was a life member of three organizations: the R.C. Men's Club, the Herman Volunteer Fire Company and American Legion Post 117 of Butler.

He is survived by two sons, Francis C. "Chuck" Horstman Jr. of Butler and Carl L. "Pete" Horstman and his wife, Alice, of Herman; four daughters, Mrs. Deborah Fritz and her husband, Fred, of Valencia, Mrs. Susan Zang and her husband, Alvin, of Herman, Mrs. Cheryl Ray and her husband, Robert, of Herman and Mrs. Shirley Selfridge and her husband, David, of Butler; one sister, Mrs. Rose Dupe of Butler; 19 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, June E. Walker Horstman, who passed away Jan. 14, 2009; one granddaughter; and three brothers.

"Frank" Horstman, who died Sunday, July 19, 2009, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the <B>Martin Funeral Home</B>, 429 Center Ave., Butler. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Herman. Burial will take place in the St. Mary Cemetery.Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by VFW Post 249 and Lyndora American Legion Post 778.Information also is available at www.martinfh.net.
