Charles W. Beighey
Charles William Beighey, 84, of Harmony died peacefully Saturday at the St. John Specialty Care Center, Mars.
Born Oct. 31, 1924, in Middle Lancaster, he was the son of the late Walter T. and Olive (Ziegler) Beighey.
Mr. Beighey was a World War II and Korean War Army veteran, serving in the European theater during World War II.
He retired from Penn Power in Zelienople as customer service supervisor on Nov. 1, 1989, after 43 years.
He served on the Southwest Butler County School Board from 1957 to 1965, serving as president from 1961 to 1962. He was a member and past master of the Harmony Lodge 429 F&AM and served for 19 years as a member and was a past president of Harmony Borough Council.
Mr. Beighey was Harmony Borough's representative to the Butler County Boroughs' Association, where he served four terms as president and was the Butler County Boroughs' representative to the Pennsylvania State Association of Boroughs board of directors and board of trustees.
In 1986, he initiated the indoor adult walking program at Seneca Valley Intermediate School.
Mr. Beighey was a member of the English Lutheran Church, Zelienople, where he had served as Sunday school superintendent, church council president and head of the Usher's Committee.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Shirley E. (Gross) Beighey, who he married May 20, 1949; and a son, Mark Beighey and his wife, Heesuk, of Heidelberg, Germany.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, David and Jeff Beighey; and two brothers, Ralph and Herbert Beighey.
